To build a new accessible entrance and sidewalk ramp, the Smithsonian Institute needed to reproduce the original cast iron fence and a gate around the historic Old Patent Office Building. From a dismantled and unused old section of fence, Richmond Iron made foundry patterns and castings to accurately reproduce the cast iron fence sections and a cast iron gate. The foundry patterns made for the Smithsonian are an example of the finest traditional foundry pattern making in wood and reproduction molding in cast urethane.
